Airdhana by Angel Giraldez
This project was such a curve ball for me as I didn’t plan for it at the time. I stumbled across this model online when I was shopping for new paints and other supplies. My mind didn’t click it was THE Angel Giraldez himself’s model at first. I went googling and sure enough I found the model on his Instagram profile and a painting guide on Youtube.
As I was on a World of Warcraft kick at the time and the box art screamed Night Elf to me, I decided to add it to my order as a treat to myself. When it arrived I got to work painting it straight away!
Sadly I don’t have many progress photos of her as this was a time before I really got into logging my progress for the website blog. However I will do my best to explain what I done to achieve the final result!
I washed the resin pieces thoroughly before gluing her together and priming her Colour Forge’s Matt Black. She fit together really well with no need for gap filling.
For the colour scheme, my goal was to replicate the box art as closely as possible. I began by using Pro Acryl Purple for her skin’s undertone. Then I jumped quite harshly up to Pro Acryl Magenta using multiple thin smooth layers on the raised areas of her skin, being careful to leave shadows on her skin purple.
To carry on with the skin I played with mixing colours to work up the highlights, I wanted her skin to shine like its catching a intense light source like the sun. I mixed Pro Acryl Bold Pyrrole Red into the magenta and worked on applying thin layers on the raised areas getting smaller and smaller each time I mixed the paint, leaving the previous layers underneath showing. I focused particularly on the raised areas I knew I wanted to shine catching the light. Her upper thighs, abs, the underside of her breasts, her raised sword arm and side of her face.
I then mixed up a very watered down magenta and glazed the layers together to smooth out the mid-tones. I then used Pro Acryl Tan Flesh to add a thin layer to the raised areas, this created the shining glossy skin look I was looking for. For the makeup I kept it simple. I used Pro Acryl Dark Grey Blue for the eye shadow and lips. I carefully dotted her eyes and that was her body done.
So here she is all finished! I am sorry about the jump in progress, all the future blogs post website launch will have full progress photos I promise.
So luckily her box art scheme matched closely with a lot of the colours I still had on my palette. I began with her clothes by using the dark grey blue being very careful around her top not to hit the skin. Then I used Pro Acryl Blue for the mid-tone. Then mixing in Pro Acryl Sky Blue to the mid-tone Blue I applied a single thin layer on certain raised areas to try show a weathered cloth look.
For her hair I used the purple on my palette in multiple thin coats, then once it was was dry I applied a Army Painter Purple Tone Quickshade in the recesses of her hair to create some more depth.
Her swords I used all the blues again, starting with dark grey blue then adding blue followed by sky blue around the edge of the flat shape of the blades. I then done a very stylized shiny look with white lines and edge highlights to show the blade is sharp.
To keep with the stylized look I used Pro Acryl Dark Umber on all the leather, keeping it very flat on purpose. The edges of her leather I used Pro Acryl Bright Warm Grey also keeping it flat. I wanted to give off vibes she was straight from a stylized look like World of Warcraft. The gems I used the bold pyrrole red. For the jewellery I used Pro Acryl Golden Yellow. To finish I used Pro Acryl Dark Warm Grey on the stone base, and added some scratches with the bright warm grey to edge highlight the stones, and that was her done! I decided against making a detailed base for her as I thought just the rock had this clean display look to it.
I hope you enjoyed my process and behind the scenes of this fantastic model. It has made me curious to check out the other models Angel Giraldez has for sale and hopefully you will check them out as well! If you want to see full 360 photos of her, head over to the gallery and enjoy!
Take care.
